SPOKANE, WA — The duo earned Team of the Week selections for their goal contributions against One Knoxville SC last Sunday, marking the third straight week that multiple Velocity FC players have earned a spot on the team.
Lewis and Opara will look to keep the Lads five-match unbeaten streak alive when they visit Greenville Triumph SC on Wednesday before returning home for their final regular season home match on Saturday against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
Team of the Week – Week 32
Opara assisted on a goal by Shavon John-Brown in the first half against Knoxville, bringing his assist total on the season to four, which is the second highest on the team. Lewis also recorded an assist when he set up Neco Brett’s insurance goal in the second half. This was Lewis’s second straight Team of the Week selection, while Opara has made two of the last three.
Previewing the Week
Velocity FC (15-8-5) is currently sixth in League One standings with 50 points and has already clinched a playoff spot. Spokane is chasing a top four finish for a home playoff match, and with at least two matches in-hand over the top five sides, the Lads control their destiny.
Spokane’s first match this week will be on Wednesday against Greenville (6-17-6), who is 16th in league standings with 24 points and has been eliminated from playoff contention.
After that contest, Velocity FC will return home to host Chattanooga (14-12-4) on Saturday, who are in seventh place with 46 points and still looking to clinch a playoff position. This will be the Lads’ final regular season match at ONE Spokane Stadium this year.
Looking Back
Velocity FC will come into this match on a high after their road win over One Knoxville SC last Sunday, which marked the club’s 15th regular season win this year, which is a new club record. Triumph SC ended their match against AV Alta FC last Saturday in a 2-2 draw.
The Red Wolves suffered a 3-0 loss last Wednesday against One Knoxville SC.
