MADISON, WI — Spokane Velocity FC will visit Forward Madison FC this Saturday in a rematch of a July 1 contest, when Madison defeated Spokane 1-0. This weekend’s match will take place at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wisconsin, with kickoff set for 3:00 PM PT and streaming available on ESPN+.
League One Standings
Velocity FC (12-8-4) is currently seventh in League One standings with 40 points but has played just 24 league matches while all other clubs have played at least 26. With a month left in the regular season, a top-four finish is still in reach for Spokane.
Forward Madison FC (15-6-6) clinched a playoff spot last weekend with 51 points, joining Union Omaha and Charlotte Independence as the confirmed playoff sides so far. This comes after Madison’s win on Saturday against AV Alta FC.
Looking Back
Velocity FC will enter Madison with almost a full week of rest, following an intense match with AC Boise on Sunday, September 20th. The tilt against Boise resulted in a 2-2 draw, despite the early lead from Boise, after Captain Luis Gil and Derek Waldeck leveled the score within two minutes of each other in the second half.
Madison’s win over AV Alta preserved their undefeated record at Breese Stevens Field in league play this season, with the Flamingos 8-0-5 at home.
Players to Watch
Forward Shavon John-Brown continues to lead Spokane players in goals this season with six. Following a three-save effort versus Boise, goalkeeper Sean Lewis will remain busy against Madison’s lead goal scorer Ryan Carmichael, who leads his team in goals scored with 12, which is second overall in the league. Carmichael’s 12 goals is a new club record for Madison.
