SPOKANE, WA — As the playoff picture comes into focus, Spokane and Boise will clash for a third time this Sunday at ONE Spokane Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM PT, and tickets are available at Velocity FC Single Match Tickets – USL Spokane.
League One Standings
Two playoff spots were clinched last weekend, leaving six spots left for the field to take. Velocity FC (12-8-3) is currently seventh in League One standings with 39 points, while AC Boise (13-7-6) is in fifth place with 45 points.
Spokane has played two fewer matches than Boise, so a win on Sunday would help the Lads gain ground on their rivals while separating themselves from the bottom of the playoff line.
Looking Back
Velocity FC is looking to shake off a 1-3 loss to Union Omaha last Wednesday that broke a three match unbeaten streak. It was a continuation of Spokane’s struggles on the road this season, as they have gone 2-5-3 on away matches in league play compared to 10-3-0 at home.
Boise has gone unbeaten in their last seven matches and have won three of their last five contests heading into Sunday. Their last match was on Wednesday against Charlotte Independence, which resulted in a 1-1 draw after Charlotte equalized in the 62nd minute.
Players to Watch
Forward Shavon John-Brown leads all Spokane players in goals this season with six and will be an integral part of the attack. Defensively, Camron Miller’s presence on the backline will be important as he leads the team in clearances (114) and blocks (11).
Boise’s offense runs through midfielder Denys Kostyshyn, who leads the team in goals with eight. Besides Kostyshyn, Tumi Moshobane and Nick Moon both have seven goals on the season and will also have to be accounted for by Spokane defensively.
