Velocity FC Heads to the Big Apple for Contest Against New York Cosmos
PATERSON, NJ — Velocity FC (10-6-2) will travel to Hinchliffe stadium to compete against the New York Cosmos (3-13-2) on Saturday, August 8. The match is set to kick off at 4 p.m. PT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
Velocity FC enters the match on the heels of a strong July showing. In Week 21, the club avenged two earlier league defeats with back-to-back victories, beginning with a dominant 3-0 win over Charlotte Independence on July 22. Just three days later, Velocity FC followed it up with a 3-1 victory over Fort Wayne, completing an impressive turnaround against two teams that had previously defeated them earlier in the season.
Velocity FC currently sits fifth in the table, while the New York Cosmos are 17th as they continue to search for consistency heading into the final stretch of the season.
Spokane traveled to Chattanooga last Saturday to play Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, but the match was delayed and eventually postponed due to lightning strikes in the area. The contest will be rescheduled to a later date and will be replayed in full from opening kickoff.
The New York Cosmos are hoping to begin a late-season turnaround in the club’s inaugural campaign in League One. The Cosmos’ last match was on Wednesday against the Richmond Kickers, which New York lost 0-2, marking their third loss in a row. With the postseason slipping further out of reach, the Cosmos will be looking to build momentum and finish the season on a positive note.
Saturday’s matchup will mark the end of Velocity FC’s two-week road trip. After concluding their away campaign against the Cosmos, Velocity FC will return home to One Spokane Stadium, where the club will play its next three matches in front of its home supporters, a stretch that could prove crucial in the race for playoff positioning.

Velocity FC will return to One Spokane stadium on August 12 to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in a pivotal USL Cup Quarterfinal match. This is the first time Spokane has advanced to the knockout rounds of the cup and will look to advance to the semifinals.
