SPOKANE, WA — A spot in the Prinx Tires USL Cup semifinals will be on the line when the Lads hosts Colorado Springs in an elimination match this Wednesday at ONE Spokane Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 PM PT, with streaming available on ESPN+.
Cup Standings
Both Spokane and Colorado Springs won their respective groups to advance to the knockout rounds. Velocity FC went 3-1-0 in the group stage, including two wins against USL Championship sides, while the Switchbacks went a perfect 4-0-0 against group 2.
Colorado Springs is tied for the most clean sheets in cup play with three and have only conceded one goal in the tournament so far. Spokane, on the other hand, has only taken 32 shots in cup play which is tied for the third-lowest among all teams. However, they have been efficient with their attempts, holding a 25% conversion rate which is tied for the third-highest in the tournament.
Players to Watch
Velocity FC forward Shavon John-Brown leads the team in goals scored this season with five and has gotten 10 of his 12 shot attempts in the regular-season on target. His offensive creation will be needed against a Colorado Springs side that has been stingy on defense in cup play.
Switchbacks FC forward Khori Bennett is competing for the Golden Boot in Championship play, with 11 goals scored so far in 2026 which is the second most in the league. Defensively, goalkeeper Colin Shutler has recorded all three of Colorado Springs clean sheets in the cup and is eyeing a fourth on Wednesday.
A Lengthy Break for Spokane
The last time Velocity FC played a full match was on July 25 against Fort Wayne FC, which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Lads. Spokane’s first two matches in August were postponed due to weather and travel delays, giving the team an unexpected two week gap in between contests played.
Next Home Match
Velocity FC will have a quick turnaround after their cup match, as they will play host to Corpus Christi FC in a League One match this Saturday. The match is set to kickoff at 6:00 p.m. PT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
